Episode 114: Dr Robyn Mundy (Writer and Senior Polar Guide) - Part 2, and more...

The first half of this episode features Part 2 of Craig's interview with Dr Robyn Mundy, adventurer, novel writer, and Senior Polar Guide. For over 20 years, Robyn has worked seasonally as a guide, lecturer and zodiac driver on expedition-style tourist voyages to Antarctica, the New Zealand and Tasmanian Subantarctics, the Norwegian archipelago Svalbard and East Greenland, and also in the tropics.  Part 2 picks up where Part 1 (i.e. Episode 113) left off, with Robyn talking about her Maatsuyker Island caretaker experiences. She then relates the background to her third novel, Cold Coast and its main character, Wanny Woldstad, Svalbard’s first female trapper and hunter in the 1930’s. Among other things, Robyn also talks of her role as a volunteer Operator at Tas Maritime Radio, a service providing safety communications for mariners in Tasmanian waters and beyond. In the second half of the episode, Craig reads a recently published article, sourced from the Natural History Museum (UK) about a research voyage that investigated the unexplored deep sea around the Cook Islands in the south Pacific and aimed to champion female and Pacific islander participation in science.
