Episode 119: Prestigious award to Antarctic sea-ice scientist…and more...
Again, in lieu of an interview guest, in this episode Craig reads four recently published articles that come with marine flavours. The first article is sourced from the website of the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), University of Tasmania, which reports on the awarding of a prestigious Royal Society of Tasmania Medal to physical oceanographer and Antarctic sea-ice researcher, Dr Edward Doddridge of the Australian Antarctic Program Partnership. The second article, and a somewhat depressing one (sourced from the ABC News website), is about South Australia's toxic algal bloom having recently spread to Adelaide's metropolitan beaches. Then follows an article from the website of ABC Hobart on recent Humpback Whale sightings in the River Derwent, 'upstream' from Hobart. And finally, an overseas article from the website of the British Natural History Museum on how 500-million-year-old fossils discovered in Morocco have revealed how starfish evolved their pentaradial (5 arms) form.
