Episode 118: The importance of advancing ocean literacy for ocean sustainability...and more...

In lieu of an interview guest, in this episode Craig reads five recently published articles that come with marine flavours.  The first two articles are sourced from the website of the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), University of Tasmania: Highlighting the importance of advancing ocean literacy for achieving sustainability of our oceans; and, How increasing melting of Antarctic ice is speeding up the flow of the Antarctic Slope Current and impacting on that current's ability to shield the continent from the warm waters to the north. The third article comes from the website of CSIRO and relates the discovery of new species of cirrate octopuses, including the Carnarvon Flapjack Octopus, off the coast of NW Australia, while the fourth article reports the appointment of Professor Nerilie Abram as the Australian Antarctic Program's new Chief Scientist. And lastly, an article from the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) about their portable reef aquaculture system, ReefSeed, designed to aid coral reef restoration in remote locations, having been successfully road tested in the Maldives.
