Episode 125: Dr Tyson Jones (IMAS) - Part 1
Craig's interview guest in this episode is Dr Tyson Jones who is a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Reef Repair Hub of the Ecology and Biodiversity Centre at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), University of Tasmania. Tyson’s research specialities include exploring nocturnal reef ecology across both temperate and tropical reefs; identifying biases and limitations which inhibit sampling methodologies from accurately recording the full spectrum of fish species present on reefs. In this Part 1 of his interview you will hear Tyson talk entertainingly of his rather convoluted pathway to marine science, after first dabbling in an engineering degree, and then onto a Bachelor of Science in Animal Ecology and an Honours project studying saltmarsh ecosystems, conducting complimentary habitat and fish assemblage surveys to prioritise restoration efforts for threatened estuarine habitats. And if you ever wanted to know what "squidpopping" is, here's your chance! Part 2 of Tyson's interview will feature in the next episode of Vibes Under The Sea.
