Episode 133: Maugean Skate conservation program boosted by new facility at IMAS Taroona...and more
In this episode, in lieu of an interview guest, Craig reads five recently published articles that come with marine flavours. The first two articles come from the website of the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), University of Tasmania: A new facility, dubbed "Skate Park", has been established to support the Maugean Skate conservation program; and, Highlighting a University Medal awardee's honours research project that characterised the biological parameters of Ocean Perch. The following two articles come from the news website of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: The Tasmanian Government's upcoming ban on catching and keeping Sand Flathead, applied to recreational fishing in south-eastern Tasmanian waters to address stock declines; and, A citizen scientists initiative on Kangaroo Island, monitoring the ongoing impacts and recovery from the toxic algae bloom in the island's waters. The last article, from the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), is about the institute's new autonomous surface vehicle (ASV) that is assisting in the task of identifying optimal locations for the release of baby corals onto coral reefs.
