Episode 148: RV Investigator sea-training voyage to the Pacific...and more
In this episode, in lieu of an interview guest, Craig reads four recently published articles that come with marine flavours. The first two articles are taken from the news webpage of the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), University of Tasmania: Twenty students aboard RV Investigator for a 14 day voyage from Brisbane to Fiji as part of the Collaborative Australian Postgraduate Sea-Training Alliance Network (CAPSTAN) program; and two University of Tasmania researchers have been jointly named the 2026 Young Tall Poppies of the Year for Tasmania. The third article, sourced from The Conversation and authored by Ella Clausius, Craig's interview guest in Episode 138 of Vibes Under The Sea, highlights that marine protected areas globally are not providing the level of protection for our oceans as much as we might expect. And the last article is one from overseas, taken from Oceanus, the magazine journal of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in the USA: The surprising discovery that, rather than avoiding cyclonic storms and strong crosswinds, some petrel species have a survival strategy of actively seeking them out.
