Episode 147: Neve Clippingdale (IMAS)
This episode features Craig's interview with Neve Clippingdale who is a PhD candidate at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), University of Tasmania and who is a recipient of a Westpac Future Leaders Scholarship. Neve's PhD research, an extension of what she did during 2025 for her Honours, focuses on investigating whether the morphology of a species of diatom, Fragilariopsis kerguelensis, can be used as a proxy for reconstructing past sea surface temperatures in the Southern Ocean and around Antarctica, with the potential to improve our understanding of how these regions may respond to future climate change. Some of the many things we hear Neve talk about, with great passion, include her career journey to date, the various research and associated activities that she's done through her undergraduate and postgraduate pathway, and her 10 week voyage in early last year aboard RSV Nuyina to the Denman Glacier region in East Antarctica.
