Episode 149: Greg Woodham (Tasmania's abalone industry) - Part 2
This episode features Part 2 of Craig's interview with Greg Woodham, a pioneer of Tasmania’s commercial abalone fishery and a key participant in measures to maintain the sustainability of the industry. We hear Greg talk further about the collaborations that he and others developed among the key stakeholders for management of the industry, and the tough, and for some, unpopular, decisions that had to be made to ensure maintenance of a strong base stock of abalone and sustainability for the fishery. Greg also gives his insights around recommended priorities for any young person considering entering into the industry. And he talks about his current cooperative that is providing nitrox gas for fellow commercial divers, contributing to a safer diving environment, and about his skipper-work for salmon farming company Tassal on the Tasman Peninsula. In the remainder of the episode, Craig reads two recently published articles from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (University of Tasmania) which have strong linkage to things mentioned by Greg during his interview.
