Episode 117: Toni Moate (CSIRO)

Craig's interview guest for this episode is Toni Moate, who for the past 9 years has been the Director of CSIRO’s National Collections and Marine Infrastructure (NCMI) and is based at the Marine Laboratories in Hobart. But Toni’s tenure with CSIRO and the Marine Labs extends much further back; another 25 years in fact. She started with CSIRO in 1991 as an Administration Manager and went on to fulfill several high level roles prior to being appointed Director of NCMI in 2016. She has been an Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief of Business, and also the Director of Strategy & Development for National Facilities and Collections. And prior to that last position, Toni was Deputy Chief for Science Operations which included the mammoth task of overseeing the planning, construction and delivery of RV Investigator to CSIRO, back in 2009 – 2014. You will hear Toni talk of the challenges that came with those responsibilities, in addition to many engaging and at times very funny stories about her earlier roles, and also her reflections around the Marine Laboratories having recently reached a 40 years 'birthday'.
